Costs for newcomers to our hobby. Obviously the greatest cost is your radio. Radios start at approximately $350 and should be at least 4 channels, this gives you the three primary flight
controls and the throttle. Next is your aircraft, which costs about $180, make it a high wing trainer just like learning to fly the real thing, you've all seen them, the trusty old Cessna. I know we all like the
aerobatic type aircraft, but they will come later, after you have learnt to fly. Next the engine. If you have purchased an aircraft already then by an engine to fit, if not, then look at a .40-.46 Engine with the
aircraft to suit. About $170 for the engine. Now there are more nic-nacs in our hobby than you can point a stick at, buy what you like-later but for starters you will need something to pump the fuel into the
aircraft's tank and something to make the glow plug glow - absolute minimum. Total cost APPROX $700 plus odds and ends, another $100 or so. Having said that many hobby shops can do a deal for YOU !!! One other
cost, SORRY, is the cost of membership to a club like ours. This year the fees are set at $135 for seniors and $35 for juniors. This gets you not only membership of our club but also to the NSW body of our hobby, which
then arranges insurance coverage. You need insurance - accidents can, and do, happen. We will give you any assistance we can when you are building the aircraft, free of charge as well as instruction on how to fly your
latest masterpiece. |
